WATER INTRUSION TESTING
Minimize

Water Intrusion Testing is an established process used to test the capability of windows, curtain wall windows, storefront windows, sliding glass doors (SGD), skylights, etc. to resist water intrusion over a specified time period by:

  • Spray Testing – AAMA 501 Quality Assurance & Diagnostic Water Leakage Field Check
  • Chamber TestingAAMA 502 Voluntary Specification for Field Testing of Windows & Sliding Glass Doors
  • Chamber Testing – AAMA 503 Voluntary Specification for Field Testing of Curtain Walls, Storefronts and Sloped Glazing Systems
  • Window/SGD Water Leakage Investigation – AAMA 511
  • Exterior Envelope Water Leakage investigation – ASTM E 2128 Standard Guide for Evaluating Water Leakage of Building Walls
  • Brick Water Penetration Testing – ASTM 1601 Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Masonry Wall Surfaces
Our team is well trained and follows the AAMA and ASTM standards to the letter. The information gained from these tests is used to correct applications and/or installation processes and is potentially applied across the entire building.

WMC&T will provide administration of these tests by:
  • Providing a Water Testing Responsibilities Guide for water intrusion testing to help clients prepare and assemble a complete water test team
  • Communicating with window and door manufacturers to ensure they have a knowledgeable representative to attend the tests and providing feedback to these manufacturers on quality trends found during testing of their products
  • Providing reports that thoroughly document and illustrate the issues found during the testing procedure
Water Intrusion Testing can help by determining:
  • Effectiveness of the waterproofing details
  • Proper or improper installation of the sliding glass door and/or window assembly
  • Quality of the manufacturer’s window/door assembly process
